I’ve created a new form that I’m really excited to share with you. I made it to use with my Studio students, who are in a self-directed class, meaning that a primary learning goal of the course is for students to learn how to direct their own artmaking and learning. My role is to scaffold, support, and provide feedback. Hopefully, this form will help with that.
The form has three categories of artmaking:
Formal artwork - original, polished work that is carefully planned and made
Explore - testing out ideas, experimenting. Informal work focused on applying artmaking knowledge in order to gain new information.
Learning - learning how to use new media, techniques, or styles. Informal work focused on gaining knowledge that can be applied in experimenting or formal work.
The form asks students to choose one of the three categories and guides them through structuring the work they will do. My hope is that, along with my teaching about the three categories, this form will help with ideation, planning, and learning how to independently shape the creative process.
Here is a copy to view. Feel free to fill it out and see how it works. I’d love to know what you think about it! Here is a copy you can use with your students and edit. The link will prompt you to make a copy before you can see the form.
If you’re interested in learning how to make your own branching Google form this short video explains how I did it. Figuring out how to put what was in my brain on a Google form was definitely a stretch and explore experience for me but it’s pretty easy once you see how it’s done.
This is brilliant! A technical question - how did you create that branching form? For example, if the student selects "Learning" on the first screen, the next screen collects/presents info based on that choice. Is their an online resource about how to do that? Thank you
I love this idea! this would be a great opening activity to have students do as well. Is it okay if I start entering information so I can see all the steps?
