Hi Melissa! I love this concept and I want to try it this year with middle school students at my fine art magnet school. I teach some incredible artists, but many struggle to come up with new ideas, particularly as the year goes on. Did you find that students came back to these lists later in the year or do you recommend having them generate new ideas every few weeks in order to keep things fresh?

Thank you for sharing this teaching strategy and support for ideation. It is so important for students artists to develop their critical thinking skills, imagination, and motivation that you can express so much with art! And when one feels stuck or overwhelmed with material, there’s nothing like it! Inspiration literally means breathe life into and your presentation feels just like that, a big inhale of genius!

Hi Melissa! What a wonderful way to have students practice idea generation! I’ve been thinking a lot about how we help students develop this skill as well. About how long did this take each class period? And how soon after the semester started did you start this challenge? I’m so curious to know more about how this went with your students! Thank you for sharing!

This is awesome. On your second slide, the chart is cut off. Would you share that? The Cake God was hilarious!
